Jay Devereux appointed as Hashtag United’s first-ever head of football

We’re delighted to confirm that Jay Devereux, our very own Devs, has agreed terms to become Hashtag United’s new Head of Football, becoming the first person in the club’s history to take on the role.

As many of you will know, Devs recently stepped aside as Men’s First Team manager. But that certainly doesn’t mean he’s going anywhere. Hashtag United has always been built on people, and when someone has given as much to this club as Devs has, you do everything you can to keep them involved.

This appointment is a reflection of exactly that.

In his new role, Devs will oversee football operations and strategy across the entire club, including the Men’s and Women’s First Teams, recruitment, the pathway programme, and our youth teams. It’s a hugely important position within our structure, and one that will play a key role in shaping the future of football at Hashtag United.

There really is nobody better placed to take it on.

A New Role For A Club Legend

If anyone needed reminding of what Devs means to Hashtag United, his induction into the Hashtag United Hall of Fame in 2026 says everything.

For years, he has been at the heart of this football club. Through promotions, challenges, memorable moments and historic milestones, Devs has played a major role in helping build Hashtag United into what it is today. His understanding of our identity, values and ambitions is unmatched.

Moving into the Head of Football role feels like a natural progression.

His passion for the club is clear, his standards are high, and his knowledge of the game across every level of our football pathway makes him the ideal person to help drive the next stage of our journey.

This is not a farewell wrapped up in a new job title. It is an opportunity for Devs to make an even greater impact across the whole football club, helping support and develop every area of the game under the Hashtag United banner.

Word From Our Founder

Here’s what Spencer Owen had to say:

“As stressed when we announced his departure from the Men’s manager role, I’ve been very keen to keep Devs at the club, which is why I’m delighted he’s agreed to become our first ever Head of Football. This is a role that will see Devs oversee football operations and strategy across our Men’s, Women’s and Youth teams.

“He’s perfect; his passion for our club is undeniable, his understanding of our history and future runs very deep, and his knowledge, ethics and diligence are the exact traits we want spearheading our new-look structure. I’m over the moon that we get to continue our partnership working together.”

Word From Devs

And from the man himself:

“Although it’s the right time for me to step aside as manager, I really don’t feel ready to walk away from something I care so deeply about. This club, and being part of it, is incredibly important to me, which is why I’m delighted to have been asked to stay involved.

“I’m excited to be able to build on my involvement beyond the Men’s 1st Team, and I’m looking forward to supporting the management and their teams across the men’s, women’s and youth sections of our club.”

This appointment marks an exciting new chapter for Hashtag United.

As the club continues to evolve both on and off the pitch, strong foundations are being put in place to support long-term success across every level of the football programme. Bringing everything together under a clear football structure is an important step forward, and having someone with Devs’ experience, commitment and understanding of the club leading that process is invaluable.

Few people embody what Hashtag United is all about in the way Devs does.

Having a Hall of Famer with his passion, experience and deep connection to the club at the heart of our football operation is exactly the sort of move that demonstrates our ambition for the future while staying true to who we are.

Please join us in congratulating Devs on his new role.

Welcome to the role, Devs.

Let’s get right behind him.
